What is the SD Card used for?

I have a 512gb sd card installed in my new Note Air3 C. For the life of me I have no idea what this is used for. Can you move notes to it? PDFs? Apps? Android Apps? And what directories do you move them to? 64gb isn't going to help me (actually more like 48GB) so any help would be much appreciated.
