Onyx Boox Tab Ultra C Pro - Front light is yellow rather than cold white

My TUC could get to very cool white.  I think it's relative so you have to compare between extreme warm to extreme cool.  I don't have the none-color eink reader, so I can't compare to black & white version.  I believe black & white screen typically has the best contrast and the background can get to really white.  I was a bit disappointed initially after getting my TUC.  But under brighter environment, the background is white enough where the sacrifice for color becomes a plus for me.

It'll be hard to tell you for sure unless you can post images of your PRO's cool vs warm.

Under dimmer env, the screen looks dull for my TUC.  But once your room is beyond certain brightness, the color starts to pop and the warm <-> cool difference is really obvious.  I don't set mine to extreme cool.  It's too bluish for me (if it's an indication).  My setting is probably 30-40% on the cool slider scale.

Especially being this my first eInk device, the colour experience of what I see in the review videos seems to be different from what I'm experiencing. My disappointment is with the colours. My main intention to buy this device was to take notes and also do annotations with various colours. I know I can't expect a colour like LCD or OLED. But somehow I feel the yellowish front light might be the cause of the issue.

    Find below the images.

I posted the same thread on a public forum and one of the users mentioned that their "Onyx Boox Tab Ultra C Pro" doesn't have the same issue. Seems like mine is a defective one.

Now I have raised a support request.

good to know.  it does seem too warm from your picture as well.  Hope you get it fixed without any issues.

I tried and the support team said the unit was fine and had no issues.

Fortunately, I had a 30-day return window, so I sent it back and purchased another one. The second one too had issues with the front light, but it was better than the first unit. But then I discovered other users had brighter background displays (the grey background) than mine. I loved their note-taking app, but then realized that e-Ink quality control seems to be not that good.

Also I felt like my reasoning and pictures kind of went on deaf ears especially when I showed the comparison pictures between my first and second device.

So returned my second device as well and decided to wait for better future devices. For now, sticking with Rocketbook and Pilot pens.
