option to switch from color to 300 dpi BW mode

In fact it isn't something that you turn on and off -- black text is 300 dpi.  The reduced resolution of colour is a byproduct of how colour is generated -- it is a 3-colour "mask" over top of the black/white layer.  It isn't 1/3 resolution because of some sub-pixelization magic.  But rest assured that if you're displaying black/white text or images you're getting them at the full resolution - even when there is colour on the screen in other areas.

I was =really= impressed with the display when I got it -- it's really crisp.  The colour masking also makes it have more of a "matte" look (so a little muted/softer compared to a non-colour screen) but honestly I absolutely don't need sharper and was surprised how good it is.

    Hi Richard,

I do understand the way the screen is build, and agree that in many cases the default mode is fine. But with small text or pictures you see that it could be sharper if it is 300 dpi. For example the device shows a black-white picture of a pencil if you do not have a Today's memo defined. This is very very sharp, especial the thin line drawn by the pencil in the picture. This sharpness do I not see when viewing a page in colour mode but if needed it would be a handy feature to just force the device to only display the BW mode and have the sharpness for text and detailed pictures (eg schematics).

So I agree with your statement but still think it would be a major pro to have this feature available.

Are you talking about things that you're seeing on your own device?  Because I don't really see a "colour mode".  If I'm editing a note that is just black and white then everything is very sharp (300 ppi).  Then if I add colour to the page, nothing changes to the black and white text ... it stays the same sharpness.  There isn't a colour "mode" -- it's always in colour mode and you always get 300 ppi for black items and 150 ppi for colour items.

    Do you see differently?

That's indeed my question, I don't know if this is the case because if you add color to the page the filter is active, is it for the total page or only the colored part of the page ?

If your assumption is correct and only the colored part is 150 ppi and the BW portion of the same page remains 300 PPI then asking for a switch / feature is not needed. However if the total page is either 150 ppi or 300 ppi then it would make sense.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that is the case -- the mask is always active but is just fully "open" for black and white whereas additional masking for colours affects the resolution in those areas.
    Nice video of this here:
