Dip Pen and Parallel Pen for western calligraphy
Hello,
this is the only thing holding me back from buying a Boox Note.
The problem is that with the normal pen styles available, we always get the same stroke thickness regardless of the direction of movement.
Yes, you can get variety by applying different pressure on pencil and paintbrush, but currently you won't get different thicknesses when changing direction of your stroke.
There are two types of pens that I would like to see for western calligraphy:
1. Dip Pen (not fountain pen!): The stroke has a different thickness from two factors: pressure + change of direction. Cursive writing with a dip pen gets different broad lines, thin and thick, from both factors because of the broadness of the edge of the nib + it's flexibility. The remarkable does have such a dip pen, which they call calligraphy.
2. Parallel Pen: Those pens just have an extremely broad but sharp edge. Pressure does not matter here, just the angle that you are holding the pen and in which direction you are moving. You get thin lines if you move parallel to the edge, but maximum broad lines if you move 90 degrees to it. It's the same principle as painting with the edge of a knife.
Maybe this tip can help you to create additional pen brushes on your devices. Maybe the parallel pen is too complicated though because it involves angle.
If you add something like this (especially the Dip Pen), I will instantly buy a Boox Note!

I second this 100%, also with respect to instantly buying a Boox if this feature is made available!!! I strongly urge the Boox developers to try the reMarkable feature themselves, to get a feeling of the big difference it makes. It really feels like writing with a calligraphy fountain pen.
