Issue - Cannot Delete or change Highlighting

Ever since I got my Max 3 about 6 months ago I am unable to delete highlights in my texts. When I click the trash can icon nothing happens. Also, if I try to change the highlighting, for example to an underline, a message will show: Do not Add Repeatedly.
