Continuous Security Updates for Tab XC (Android version 13)

Hello BOOX Team,

I’m considering purchasing the BOOX Tab XC, which was released a few months ago. I noticed that it ships with Android 13, even though Android 16 is already available — meaning it’s already three major versions behind in the release year.

Based on Android version release and security patch history, it looks like official security updates will end around mid-2026.

I read on another BOOX support page that your devices receive at least three years of updates. I’d like to clarify how this applies specifically to security updates.

• Will BOOX continue to backport new security updates for the Tab XC after Google ends official support up to 2028?

Since the Tab XC would be a significant investment, understanding BOOX’s long-term security patch policy will help me decide whether it will remain safe to use beyond mid-2026.

  BOOX is committed to providing free firmware updates for all models for more than 3 years since the product launch date. We will also update the Android security patch in major firmware updates. Therefore, we will continue to provide updates for the security patch of Tab X C.

  That sounds promising to hear. Am I right in the understanding that in major firmware updates security patches will then also be given for three years even if official security patches end mid 2026?

  We are afraid that we are unable to guarantee that we can still provide security patches after the update of official security patches ends. But we can still offer firmware updates even if the update of official security patches ends.
