Take Notes on Books

In this article, you will learn several methods to take notes on books in NeoReader.
Highlights, Underlines & Annotations
To make highlights, underlines, or annotations, do the following:
1. Long press the content to select it, and the Word Menu will be displayed. You can choose the style and color of lines and highlights.
2. The latest firmware allows you to highlight the marked content by underlining or circling sentences. The content you highlighted will be shown in Contents＞Annotation
To manage your highlighted, underlined or annotated content, go to Contents > Annotations. Here you can also export them to local storage, email or other accounts to share with others.
To share the selected range of text in a reading card, you can also tap the Share button in the Highlights & Underlines Menu after selecting them.
To customize the export settings, do the following:
- In NeoReader, tap the center area to display the main menu.
- Tap the hamburger menu in the top right corner and choose Settings > Export Settings.
Handwriting

Note: Only available for models with handwriting functions.

To make Handwriting, do any of the following:
- Tap the Quick Handwriting button in the main menu to enable it, and you can make handwriting with the stylus without the Handwriting Toolbar.
- Tap the Handwriting button via the main menu or via the Floating Toolbar to access the Handwriting status with the Handwriting Toolbar.
Please refer to Floating Toolbar page in the Reading chapter for more info about the Handwriting Toolbar.
To manage your handwriting, go to Contents > Handwriting. Here you can also export them in PNG or PDF format.
AI Smart Scribe
AI Smart Scribe powered by BOOX's latest firmware enables you to handwrite notes in a smarter way. Tap the center area to bring up the main menu and tap the AI icon to discover all the new features.
Shape Perfection: Draw a perfect circle, rectangle, triangle, or straight line. Remember to finish the shape with one stroke and pause for 1 second before lifting your stylus.
Mark Recognition:
- Highlight the marked content by underlining or circling sentences. You can choose the style and color of lines and highlights in the menu. The content you highlighted will be shown in Contents＞Annotation.
- Tape keywords by drawing a wavy line on it to quiz yourself. And you can reveal the hidden areas by repeating the action.
Strikethrough Erase: Draw a wavy line to erase unwanted notes or shapes. Remember to cover the unwanted content as much as possible for complete deletion. To avoid unintended erasing, with firmware V3.5.1, Strikethrough Erase will be disabled when you are using Markers.
Double-tap Recognition: Double tap to convert your handwritten notes into text, or drawing into perfect shapes. You can manage your handwriting in Contents＞Handwriting.
Turn Pages with Stylus: Use the stylus to tap the left or right side of the screen to turn pages.

Take Notes with Split View
To use notepads to take notes while reading books, do the following:
1. In NeoReader, tap the center area to display the main menu.
2. Choose Split View.
3. Choose your preferred Split View mode and tap Handwritten Note or Text Note. (The note will be created with the same name as the document and will be associated with it.)
or
1. In NeoReader, swipe down from the top right corner to open the Control Center.
2. Tap the Split Screen button.
3. Choose your preferred Split Screen mode.
4. Open a note in the Notes app on the other screen. (The note created will not be associated with the document.)

Take Notes by Adding Blank Pages
You can add blank pages in PDF documents for taking notes. The pages you added will be embedded in the document, which means you can export a PDF with your notes. You can delete unwanted blank pages in Preview. In addition, you can also delete added pages by tapping the icon next to the bookmark.
Reading Data Syncing
You can sync your reading data across all your BOOX devices, including reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, underlines, annotations, handwritten notes, and format for reflowable documents (optional). The annotated contents can be viewed and shared on our send2boox websites and BOOX Assistant app. Please refer to the Reading Data Syncing page for more info.
