Can we have e-reader focused on reading again?
-
I totally agree on the reading e-books only functionlity! I am now looking for a new e-reader, since the Swedish libraries has been forced, by an EU law, to abandon Adobe DRM and instead using an Android app to borrow and read e-books in. I am.so upset with this! I have an excellent e-reader (Letto Frontlight - Swedish brand) with sharp e-ink, one battery charge can last for weeks and it has physical buttons to change page (as well as swiping). Now I will be forced to buy a more expensive, much worse one!
The app developers will not add functionality to handle physical buttons and will not make sure that it works on all e-readers available. The only thing I've heard that it is supposed to work on newer Boox tablets. But reviews tell me that people who bought one recently is very dissatisfied compared to their old, simple e-reader regarding everything from CPU, memory, battery and reading experience. I am beyond upset with this EU regulation order!
Looks like I will have to go back to buying pockets books - such a waste, when they all can be borrowed as e-books from our libraries...0 -
Hello. You can ask Adlibris's Letto Frontlight techsupport if they will support local libraries in the new environment. Maybe they will release a firmware update for their devices to allow you to borrow books from local libraries again.
The main advantage of Onyx devices is their versatility. They don't sell books, they sell devices. Devices based on android version 12-13 may well be running major book apps in the next 5-7 years. You'll probably find many more sources for reading text beyond e-stores or libraries. Quite a variety for beginner or independent authors, you may well read articles or literary blogs on a reader
