Max 3 Writing Speed

Despite reading before purchase that the Max3 has no lag when writing, I found that not to be true. Updating the device's firmware helped somewhat but there is still a noticeable lag when writing. Not every moment but every few words or so. It's distracting. Is there anything that can be done?
