Ethernet support on Max Boox 3
Hello!
I can't use the WIFI so I need to setup an Ethernet connection.
I tried many things to have an Ethernet connexion on my brand new Max Boox 3 but they are all unsuccessful.
- Bought Boox 4 in 1 adapter and pluged it to a USBC-c -> Ethernet adapter. Not working.
- Bought another USB-C -> Ethernet adapter that's supposed to work with Android 9 but it's not.
- Bought another one, not working neither.
I guess Boox does not plan to add a simple driver to its firmware so that users like me could simply access the internet using a wired connection.
I'm quite in an anger now, not just because of that but also because the support answered to my request saying "Cannot support it", no hello or any kind closing formula. I had the feeling I was just bothering them with my stupid question and that's not how you treat customers, above all when I spent more than 800 bucks on a product I can't use!!!!
As I wandered on the internet, I could note I'm not the only one facing this pain point and I'm sure Boox knows about it. I really don't understand why Boox is not listening to their customers on such a basic feature.
If this post is erased, I'm gonna post it on Amazon and online comments about the Max Boox 3. I just can't use the tablet without this feature and I'm not the only one.
Has anyone succeeded?

The support answered me. I'm copying our conversation here because people facing the same problem might be interested. For the moment they don't provide any solution. They even told me to wait for the next generation! What a joke, seriously.

Hello Michelle,
Thanks for your quick answer. I did send a message using the Feedback feature on the tablet and sending logs.
The only answer I got was "Cannot support it", without any Good morning or closing formula and without any solution for my problem. This is NOT acceptable for a device that cost me 800€! We're not talking about some silly USB key but about an expensive device I can't currently use. If I knew I could not have an Ethernet connection on it I would never have bought it. Really.
As the Max2 supports Ethernet connection, and since this is a basic feature available everywhere, I thought it would not be a problem.
My MAC is XXXXXXXXX
Best Regards,

Hello Celine,
Thanks for your clarification. Apology for any inconvenience has caused.
We are sorry that our relevant colleague did not satisfy you and we will transfer your feedback and advice to our technical team for further improvement. Apology again for the unpleasant experience. Since our devices are portable and can connect WiFi really easily, our Boox devices do not have the Ethernet cable port. As cellphones, iPads, and so many modern tablets, our Boox devices do not have this sort of function. And our Max 2 did not have this port either. Sorry about the inconvenience.
We suggest that you can connect WiFi directly with our product. We count on your understanding and patience. Thank you for your time.

celinemsHello Michelle,
I can't use the WIFI for personal reasons and Ethernet compatibility is available in most of modern devices. I did not mention the Ethernet port, obviously, but only the ability to plug a USB-C -> Ethernet adapter.
Concerning the Max 2, I found many pages on the internet mentioning this compatibility. Here is a short list:
- https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/BOOX_MAX2_Pro
As you can see, the ethernet mentioned is not the port but the adapter, which seems to be working on the 2 but not on the 3. I don't see any reason why you let this possibility on the previous model but not on the last one which is supposed to be a better version of the older.
Android devices running the 6.0 version or above have this compatibility and so are last Samsungs. As the Max3 uses the 9.0 version, I really thought it would be useless to ask you beforehand if a wired connection was possible.
Here are some links too if you want to check my words:
- https://knowtechie.com/how-to-connect-your-android-phone-or-tablet-to-an-ethernet-connection/
See how easy it should be? Just plug and play.
Another time, I can't use the wifi so this Boox is useless for me. Providing support for Ethernet is a very, very basic thing and would be very appreciated by many of your users.
Please let me know.
Kind regards,

Hello Michelle,
Just to let you know that you could, if you really wanted, update the Max 3 firmware to support Ethernet. There is no need to wait for a new model as there is no modification to do on the hardware - this is just a question of firmware.
My conclusion is that your developers won't make any evolution to the firmware, even if your users ask for it. That's a very, very bad sign concerning the quality of your products. I indeed spent more than 800$ for nothing.
I won't buy the next Max Boox generation just for a question of firmware update. That's completely nonsense. As a matter of fact, I won't buy it at all. You did no effort to provide real solutions to my problem, you even did not offer any discount on the next generation - which would have the least you could do. That's not your fault, Michelle, it's Boox's one for not listening to their customers. Boox just lost a customer forever.
Well, at least you are polite and answered quickly. Thanks for that.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Celine,
Thanks for your reply.
We are sorry that it brings you an unpleasant experience with this issue. We will transfer this case and submit the advice to our technical team to take records with our customers' requests. And the request would be added into our "to-do" list when it is up to the standard of that a certain amount of our customers' complaints and request this function back to our devices.
Apology for any inconvenience has caused. Since there are a few confirmed "to-do" list' functions lining up and to be finished and developed now. We will see if we could do anything about this function with our firmware in the near future.
Your feedback and advice are really appreciated and we count on your understanding and support along the way. Thank you for your attention.Michelle

I have a boox air 2 btw

I am also needing this feature to be able to use an ethernet adaptor for a wired connection. Which of the Boox devices have this functionality please?

Question for the developers: is it possible to change the firmware so that ALL Boox devices offer this option? Without this, the devices will not meet my needs.

I would also like to be able to use ethernet on my Max 3. It should be a standard feature, not something the team ever considers taking out. It is strange that they did. Please put ethernet capability back in the firmware. It should not require new hardware, just as Celine said.
I have seen improvements in the firmware. They make my Max 3 more useful. The voice typing in the Gboard application works now. That is fantastic. Enabling inherent capabilities of thet device is a really great thing to do for us. If the circuits and ports are there, their usefulness should be Max-imized. :)

looking to connect Max Lumi to the ethernet via USB-c adapter.

My Max Lumi does not support USB-c Ethernet. One workaround is to connect to a computer via usbc and use https://github.com/Genymobile/gnirehtet
