Lasso and copy-paste Issue

My new ML has an issue that I have experienced several times.

In the Notes app using handwritten notes, when I lasso a section to copy, the entire area is selected, and then deselect or undo is nonfunctional to regain my data. As a result, I have lost handwritten data several times and it is pissing me the phuck off.
