    Hi Ivo,

Thank you for your post. We will forward your feedback to our R&D team.

Completely agree with the topic starter.

I suffer every day because of this. It would only make sense to restrict palms from activating anything if chosen so, including the drop-down menu.

Could you please update on the status of this request?

    Every day struggle with this.

    Thank you.

I love my boox but I have the same problem as Ivo.  Super frustrating, I feel like I can't even use it for notetaking.  And it's surprising there isn't any direction in the user manual for how to reset your handed orientation or otherwise fix this problem.

I have this issue as well.  Like many left handed people the side of my hand rests well above the pen tip as I write.  With my Boox Note Air I can't write on the upper portion of the screen without the System Bar pulling down almost every few moments.  I see no way of disabling this.  The new firmware update allows for the splitting of the downward swipe so that it can pull down a notification bar (on the left) and the system bar (on the right.)  If only there were an option for it to pull down NOTHING at all or only the system bar on the far right only (nothing from the left or middle) I think it would solve the problem.

I love my Note Air otherwise but I've stopped tasking notes with it.  It's just too annoying!  Please fix this issue for us left handed people.  Thanks!

Oh wow, anyone find a solution? I love this device but this might be a deal breaker. Right now I'm only using the bottom half of the screen to take notes but that's ridiculous.

    No solution, I am afraid.
In the latest fiware update, Boox altered the swipe down functionality and made two separate menus. It means there were no issues with helping out left-handed people, but Boox just ignored us all! Instead they decided to dedicate left half of the screen's top to the stupid notification drop-down. HELLO, BOOX, people mostly use those devices for writing and reading and don't care about notifications at all!!!

That's it, I am buying Ratta Supernote.
Thank you for the amazing customer service, Boox. Or should I say thanks for nothing?

I have a Note Air running latest firmware update.  In Settings, "System Bar", toggle on "Only expand the System Bar by pulling down" setting.

This seems to make activating System Bar much more difficult, requiring a touch with pulldown motion rather than just a touch at the top of the page.

I tried this out in the note app, writing left handed with hand completely above pen tip banging away at the top of the page.  Unless I did it wrong (not moving my palm enough), I didn't get the system bar dropping on me.

Appreciate the recommendation Donut Pirate. I think I had that on but the problem persisted for me. I need to mess with it more.

Tim, I've been debating the same. Although, I'm doing all my article reading on this Boox device and the Supernote can't do that so I don't know if that's the right solve for me personally. I've actually been taking this opportunity to learn to write "correctly" and that's been kind of nice. My handwriting is more legible without the "hook hand." Although, it's a lot slower and kind of desperate to change the way you write to make a device work for you, but it has the added benefit of fixing a bad habit I guess.

I do have the standard screen protector installed that originally came with the Note Air.  Maybe it reduces the sensitivity to produce a different experience?

I have gestures turned off (the ones where you swipe from the bottom of screen to go home, back, etc).

I use the standard pencil that came with the unit, the one that magnetically sticks to the side (one without the eraser).

I did some more writing in notes, over exaggerated a hook (left and right), pushed hard with palm, light with pencil, switched it up, etc.  This included writing at the top of page edge, making 1cm vertical lines (starting north, traveling south) which surprisingly didn't invoke the System Bar pulldown.  I could still get the System Bar to pulldown by using my finger to quickly swipe down from the top so it still works.

    Maybe it's the screen protector.

Or the speed of my writing/sketching (I tend to write a bit slow but the finger swipe is pretty quick in comparison).

    Donut,

Easy way to reproduce this behavior - put your fist on the top edge of the screen ( pinkie finger) and tilt it a little bit towards your torso. Like when your draw a downward stroke.

By doing this, contact area with the screen grows and it is recognized as a swipe down. That's why the setting mentioned above does not have an effect... :(

    ONYX team,

If it's so difficult to fix the swipe down menu, introduce, at least, a swipe down by two fingers instead of one. That might address the issue as well

    Tim,

You are 100% correct.  Doing what you described caused the pull-down every single time, wow is that irritating.  Hopefully the developers can implement something to help with this.

Would be nice if the disable touch would also disable the top swipe events. It does work on the bottom swipes but not on the top.

Which makes taking notes indeed very difficult

    Any updates on this issue?

It really is beyond annoying and makes even the simplest note taking frustrating.

I taught myself to write from the bottom, so I didn't have this issue with my Note 2 air.  I can't say that I have managed to close out of the window from an accidental bottom swipe yet either, but the potential is there.  Anyway, I guess my question to the group is if anyone has tried an artist glove?  Mine seems to have taken a vacation so I can't test at this time.

Well I don't think changing your writing style is a solution I am willing to consider.
I tried folded up paper, gardening gloves etc. Still can activate the system bar. Don't have an artist glove so can't comment on that. Having to carry around a glove for when I want to take notes seems like a hassle. Especially when a patch could fix this.

Another fix might be to allow users to move the system bar so that it is pulled out from someplace other than the top of the screen.  I've moved other features and even flipped my screen upside down so that the thicker bezel on my note air is on the right side where I can grip it while I write with my left hand.  With so much customization to these other items there must be a way to clear the area in the upper left so that nothing pulls down from that area.

    Still no fix I see...

I feel like I'm back in grade school hopelessly looking for a pair of scissors with that green coating on the handles.  Or trying to wear a baseball glove backwards.

Surely this is a fixable issue?  Just allow us lefties to move or disable the system bar.

Do this for me and I'll stop elbowing people at dinner.

    Seems like it...
It's really such a shame because it makes the feature I personally use the most often a hassle and very infuriating. I just hope a solution is in sight because otherwise the note air is beautiful hardware.

    Hello,

Also wanted to post in this thread as a left-handed person who absolutely loves his Boox Note Air, but has the same issue and it makes note-taking a lot more difficult.

Would love to be able if not to be able to disable the status bar, then at least change its gesture, such that it can be activated by swiping up from the bottom, for example.

I recieved my nova air today. I have the same problem... activating the "Only expand the System Bar by pulling down" option did not help at all.

The only thing that works for me is to hold the device upside down while taking notes :(
