Hi, sorry if insist but would be nice have an answer, I think a lot of users should take advantage from it, also on you Twitter message someone made the same question.

Anyway I want also precise that latency isn’t the only issue using third party app, generally we have also problem with palm rejection.

On app that have infinite canvas, (Squid, One note, Concepts) and honestly also on other apps (if we use zoom function), when we touch the screen with our hand while we write with the pen, than the page position can change. This happen often and make these app very difficult to use. Using a device whitout rest the hand on the screen isn’t useful.

For this if you will try to implement a function like the “global writing” of the Notea will be useful resolve also this problem. A possible solution is adding a digital button like the “application ball” that is automatically activated when we enable the “global writing”, honestly these would resolve all the problems and make all third app usable.

I know you are working hard for make your “native app” ever more functional, and we like this and you have probably the most useful features that eink device can offer, but there are a lot of advanced handwriting application on Google Play, like Concepts (with infinite layers and canvas) and other that will come on the future that is sad not be able to use it.

I hope you will let us know something, thank you and good work!

We are apologize for the inconvenience and many thanks for your understanding.

Thanks for your answer but I think you didn't understand my suggestion.

I'm talking about the handwriting on "google play" apps that are done for this purpose, such as OneNote. If we try to use the pen in these applications, there is a very strong latency and the palm rejection does not respond well. This problem is partially solvable, making these applications actually usable.

If you take a look at the link I posted there is a demonstration of how this is possible, and everything will be clearer. On the video someone handwritten with a pencil on an eink tablet using a third party app, and the latency is very very reduced. So this is possible. Take a look.

    Dear customer,

Thank you for your suggestion. E-Ink screen would expect a little lag on hand writing notes on any applications. However, we do have speed mode settings on the device. So you could set the device with low performance on image but better refresh rate on the screen. In facts, our tech team is working on new technology in order to make the device more user friendly. Your suggestion has been forwarded to related department and will do our best in the new updates and models. Thank you again for your feedback.

I would like to double down in here, the third party applications run flawlessly but the input lag for the pen makes them not useful at all

I agree universal pen input would be grand.

Hello, I also join this requst. For me it would be the most important feature. I do 2d animation and Tab Ultra or Tab X would be best for it but the lag in 3rd party animation apps makes them unusable.

I would like to ask if there is any progress in developing this feature as the last answer was two years ago and still no solution.

    Thank you.

Hi, I'm jumping right in on this. It's frustrating to have such a high-quality device with which you can essentially only make local notes. The support of handwriting and drawing apps available in the Google Store would be a great help in creating accessible notes. With the options that the Boox provides, it's impossible to establish a reasonable workflow. The current possibilities are extreme compromises that offer no added value in the use of this e-ink notetaking device. Notes should be able to be created on one device and, if necessary, processed on other Android devices with exactly the same app.

    Hi all,

Is there any update on this? I cannot stress enough the annoying and disappointed feeling when I use other 3rd party apps like Moon Reader, Squid,... And the writing/taking notes are so laggy, although the app run flawlessly.

What's the point of having an e-ink android tablet when you cannot use third party app because the writing in those apps is so laggy? You might as well just make future Boox devices like Kindle...

I tried many other handwriting-note-taking applications from google play store (nebo/notewise/noteshelf/goodnotes/squid/etc...) ... none of them is practical to use on my na3c, the stylus is extremely laggy, screen does not refresh, many issues ...

Don't worry boox, I like the build-in note taking application, it does great job :) ... But switching to other stylus aware tools (as tablet is "android" open) can be great to perform other things or differently in more suited tools (calligraphy, drawings, schematics).

I noticed for instance "OneNote" application has a "scribbe" entry in optimization settings (and it really help to have non-laggy stylus), other play-store application don't have this "optimization" setting.

Reconsidering lag in "stylus-awared" third-party applications, humm, well that's clearly an unexpected disappointment.

Don't get me wrong, my na3c tablet is a great device. E-paper display for reading and note taking is incomparable over lcd screens. Faded colors, scrolling latency and ghosty marks have their charm and appeal to get focused !!

Boox made an excellent job in optimizing screen-refresh-mode and per-app-optimizations to have all this to feel very confortable for everyday usage. The device is carefully groomed, built-in note taking app is extremely intuitive and making the tablet android-open is a great thing for side-usages.

Anyhow, latency in third-pary applications using the pen is such a pain, that this limits pencil usage to mostly 1 application only (the built-in notes application). Ok OneNote has it "scribble" entry workaround in optimization settings, but well pen is not the thing I uses the most in OneNote ... Many drawing applications in the play-store would be great to use on my lovely na3c e-paper screen. Third-party notes applications have their advantages and drawbacks and I'll certainly continue to use/love build-in application notes too (damned intuitive, supports vectorial pdf-export, etc...).

As a whole, I would put this lag as a huge warning to my friends or colleagues who would like to buy similar tablet as mine. And I would reconsider myself between a classic android tablet and a new boox device for next upgrade.

Without more technical details/knowledge (for why third-party applications would have more trouble than built-in application to use the pencil), it's hard not to be suspicious boox will do much to provide an application-wide fix any time soon :(
