Take Notes on Books

In this article, you will learn several methods to take notes on books in NeoReader.
Highlights, Underlines & Annotations
To make highlights, underlines or annotations for a word, do the following:
- Long press the word to select it, and the Word Menu will be displayed.
- Tap the Annotation button to make an annotation; or tap the Highlights & Underlines button and choose a style to make a highlight or an underline.
To make highlights, underlines or annotations for a range of text, do the following:
- Tap and hold the first word, then drag to the last word; or move the drag points to include more text after selecting a word. After that, the Highlights & Underlines Menu will be displayed.
- Choose a style to make a highlight or an underline; or tap the Annotation button to make an annotation.
To manage your highlighted, underlined or annotated content, go to Contents > Annotations. Here you can also export them to local storage, email or other accounts to share with others.
To share the selected range of text in a reading card, you can also tap the Share button in the Highlights & Underlines Menu after selecting them.
To customize the export settings, do the following:
- In NeoReader, tap the center area to display the main menu.
- Tap the hamburger menu in the top right corner and choose Settings > Export Settings.
Handwriting
To make handwriting, do any of the following:
- Tap the Quick Handwriting button in the main menu to enable it, and you can make handwriting with the stylus without the Handwriting Toolbar.
- Tap the Handwriting button via the main menu or via the Floating Toolbar to access the handwriting status with the Handwriting Toolbar.

You can also double tap your handwritten note to convert it to AI recognized text, or convert boxes or lines near the text to highlights or underlines. To enable / disable these settings, do the following:
- In NeoReader, tap the center area to display the main menu.
- Tap the hamburger menu in the top right corner and choose Settings > Handwriting Recognition Setting.
To manage your handwriting, go to Contents > Handwriting. Here you can also export them in PNG or PDF format.
Notepads
To use notepads to take notes while reading books, do the following:
- In NeoReader, tap the center area to display the main menu.
- Choose Split View.
- Choose your preferred Split View mode and tap Handwritten Note or Text Note. (The note will be created with the same name as the document and will be associated with it.)
or
- In NeoReader, swipe down from the top right corner to open the Control Center.
- Tap the Split Screen button.
- Choose your preferred Split Screen mode.
- Open a note in Notes app on the other screen. (The note created will not be associated with the document.)

Reading Data Syncing
You can sync your reading data across all your BOOX devices, including reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, underlines, annotations, handwritten notes, and format for reflowable documents (optional).
