Understanding E Ink Technology in Boox eReaders
What is E Ink, and how does it work in Boox eReaders?
-
E Ink (Electronic Ink) is a display technology designed to mimic the appearance of printed paper. Here’s how it works: Microscopic Ink Particles: Each pixel on a Boox E Ink screen contains tiny black and white ink particles. When you turn pages or interact with content, these particles rearrange to form text and images, creating a glare-free, paper-like reading experience. Ambient Light Reflection: Unlike traditional screens, E Ink displays do not emit light. Instead, they reflect ambient light (like sunlight or room lighting), similar to physical paper.
What are the benefits of E Ink?
-
E Ink is ideal for reading and writing due to its unique advantages: Reduced Eye Strain: No backlight or blue light emission. Outdoor Visibility: Clear readability even in direct sunlight.
What is ghosting on an E Ink screen, and why does it happen?
Ghosting refers to faint traces of previous content (such as text or images) that remain visible on the screen after refreshing. This is a common characteristic of E Ink displays and occurs due to the followings. E Ink screens rely on the physical movement of microscopic ink particles to display content, which results in a slower refresh rate compared to LCD or LED screens.
How can I optimize ghosting on my E Ink device?
Adjust Refresh Settings
1. Swipe down from the top right corner of the device's screen to pull out the Control Center > Tap on E-Ink Center > Select HD/Normal as the Refresh Modes. (For more information on Refresh Modes, please read this article: Refresh Modes.)
2. Tap on More next to Refresh Modes and set it according to image the below. If you choose Balanced/Fast/Ultrafast Mode, turn off display enhancement.
