Understanding E Ink Technology in BOOX Devices
1. What is E Ink, and how does it work in BOOX Devices?
E Ink (Electronic Ink) is a display technology designed to mimic the appearance of printed paper. BOOX devices use E Ink to provide a natural, comfortable reading and writing experience. Here’s how it works:
- Microscopic Ink Particles: Each BOOX E Ink screen pixel contains tiny black and white ink particles. When you turn pages or interact with the screen, electric fields move these particles to display text and images.
- Ambient Light Reflection: E Ink screens reflect ambient light (like sunlight or lamp light) instead of emitting it, just like real paper. This makes reading more comfortable and glare-free, especially under bright lighting.
2. What are the benefits of E Ink?
E Ink is ideal for long reading and writing due to its unique advantages:
- Reduced Eye Strain: E Ink displays have no backlight and emit no blue light, helping protect your eyes during extended use.
- Outdoor Visibility: Unlike traditional LCD or OLED screens, E Ink displays remain clear and readable even in direct sunlight.
3. What is ghosting on an E Ink screen, and why does it happen?
Ghosting is when faint remnants of previous content, like text or images, remain visible after the screen refreshes. This is a normal aspect of E Ink technology. It happens for many reasons:
- E Ink relies on the physical movement of micro-ink particles, which refresh slower than traditional displays.
- Incomplete particle movement between screen updates can leave behind "ghosts" of the last image or page.
4. How can I optimize ghosting on my E Ink device?
You can manage ghosting by adjusting the screen's refresh settings:
Step 1. Swipe down from the top right corner of the device's screen to pull out the Control Center > Tap on EinkWise > Select a Refresh Mode. (For more information on Refresh Modes, please read this article: Refresh Modes.)
Step 2. Tap the selected Refresh Mode again and turn on Auto Full Refresh.
