Feature request: add transparency adjustment to the marker pen so it can be used as a highlighter in Neoreader
It is very counter-intuitive that such an important feature as a highlighter is not existed for note taking functions, but a non-transparent marker pen exists for some reason.
Why don’t I like to use the long-press texts and select the text to highlight feature, but prefer using handwriting highlight:
1. It takes more time to recognize which text has been selected. On top of that, at least half of the time the selected text is wrong, so I have to manually adjust which texts I actually want to select.
2. Using the pen to select text is much more accurate than using finger. However, right now the new version of Neoreader use AI ”Smart Scribe” button for this setting, instead of a single button to switch between pen selecting text and hand writing mode, which makes it hard to take notes and do highlighting at the same time. If I want to switch between writing and pen selecting, I will have to do 4 more steps each time : open the side bar -> press the “AI smart scribe” button -> toggle on/off the ”Mark Recognition” -> close the side bar (because it covers a lot of texts)
3. The hand triggered highlighter can’t add more color presets, so when I want to highlight a different color, I will have to choose a new color manually, which also slows down the reading speed as well as breaking the flow. The handwriting tool bar, on the other hand, allows me to save 5 preset pens. So I only need to click once to switch.
4. I can’t think of a scenario where one would use a non-transparent marker to annotate when reading a document. Marker would be pretty cool as a drawing tool, but for taking notes, highlighters are used much more frequently.
Another issue for 10.3” tablets is that, when reading a A4 or letter size print (textbooks or academic papers), Neoreader’s settings either make the letter size way too big (such as using 2x2 mode), or too small (such as only cutting out the margins, also, cutting off the margins makes it impossible to taking notes on the margins either). It would be better to allow user to zoom-out when using a multi-column mode, as: first displaying upper-left 60% of the page, then jump to the upper-right 60%, then bottom-left 60%, then bottom-right 60%.

Dear customer,
We have forwarded your suggestions to our tech team and will improve the software of our device in the future.
Many thanks for your feedback and understanding.
Sincerely,

I wish I could up-vote this a million times. I'm sure that everyone that gets their tablet is shocked to find out that there isn't a hi-liter tool. Whaaaaaat!!!!?????!!!???
I'd like to add that this isn't just a NeoReader issue -- I think it's just as important that this get added to Notes. Honestly, I just can't believe that this doesn't exist. If I'm just missing how to do this please let me know!

Same, so disappointed

The weird part is that it's already implemented in Reader.
When you use your marker on text at first is layered behind it, as it should. Only once it loads, it gets layered on top. I have no idea why.
Hey @Boox, I understand the need for a marker that works like a watercolor. So how about you give us a second marker "texture", like a pencil's, that always gets layered behind and that has no additive effect using multiple layers?0 -
There are a =lot= of comments about this in the Note Air section of the forum (as you would expect because this is just a huge disappointment) but one of the ones that has a bigger discussion is here:
https://help.boox.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/24375601558804-Highlight-handwritten-notes
If you are desparate for a work-around there is a good one shown there to use a different layer behind the text for highlights -- it's awkward to do but a good solution if you need it for sharing or a presentation or something.
I'm still hoping that 4.0 (promised update for my Air 3c that rolled out with the 4c) has proper highlighting -- although I haven't heard this confirmed.

Actually, now I'm really hopeful.
From feature list:Improved the Marker display. The layering is optimized for clearer contrast when using the marker to highlight.
I've asked Boox for a timeline of when 4.0 will be released for the 3c and they said "when it comes" but also suggested that one could sign up for the beta testing. Since it is in Release Candidate phase at this point that might be safe ... although Boox releases (even production) have been known to break things so I'm a little conservative about firmware updates myself...

Hate to disappoint but I'm on v4.0 already, I have a NA4C.
What they are referring to, it's probably the highlighter effect on Notes which yeah on 4.0 works really good.0 -
Thank you guys for following up. I have actually sold my NA3C last summer. The reason is not because of the highlighter function. Boox pushed a new firmware update last summer, which hides all the notations on the margin of a book in Neoreader. I was using it to read pdf textbooks and I made ALL my notes on the margins, which resulted in unusable situation. So I sold it while it still has 2 months warranty left. I then used the money to buy a color laser printer. So right now I’m reading all on paper now. The e-ink device is good but Boox is too weird on their software side.
